In Memory of Congressman

George Thomas Mickey Leland (November 27, 1944 – August 7, 1989) was an anti-property activist who becomes a congressman from the Texas 18th District and chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.

In 1989, Leland died in a plane crashed in Gambela, Ethiopia during the mission to Panyindo Refuge Camp. This painting was done in memory of Congressman Leland as I was one of the thousands lost boys of Sudan waiting for his arrival at Panyindo Refugee camp when we received word his plane had crashed.
